Here are some tips to keep in mind...
Even though small groups meet online, churches can still emphasize Hospitality.
- Participate from the beginning: Ensure the host and co-host are connected from the start of the session – greeting and welcoming everyone. Avoid silence and keep the group's energy high.
- Use the Chat: Encourage hosts, helpers, and participants to chat while watching the video, as well as during the conversation time.
- Always be kind: Mind your expressions, remember that participants are watching how you react to comments, so be mindful.
- Encourage participants to join with video, not just audio.
- Ask them to try to be in a quiet and peaceful place.
- Request that all participants keep their microphones muted while not speaking, to ensure smooth and orderly conversation.
- Ask participants not to use green screens or virtual backgrounds to keep everything looking natural.
- Outline how the group will operate: Share how the call will proceed and what the session's agenda will be.
- Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection, preferably using a wired connection if possible.
- Keep it brief and engaging: Several churches have found that guests lose interest after about an hour. Therefore, we recommend keeping each session no longer than 1 hour.
- Send more messages: In a digital environment, more communication than usual is needed. Text them.
- Prepare yourself: Hosting online is very different from doing it in person. Make sure your team has the session video ready and knows which online system your church will use to continue with Alpha.
- Keep in mind: Churches have found that people are much more susceptible and sensitive online than in person. Prepare your team for that.
